Hunting in Spain as a foreigner: licenses, species and trophies

What you can hunt, how permits work and trophy import for U.S. and Mexican hunters.

Spain is one of the world's great hunting destinations, above all for the Spanish ibex —with its four subspecies of the Iberian Grand Slam— and the red stag in the rut. For the foreign hunter, the key is to arrange everything with an operator who handles the paperwork.

What you can hunt

The stars are the ibex (Gredos, Beceite, Ronda, Southeastern), the chamois, red deer, mouflon, fallow deer, the arrui, wild boar and driven red-legged partridge. Each species has its season and area, and many can be combined in a single trip.

Permits, firearms and trophies

The foreign hunter needs a license, insurance and, if bringing their own firearm, a temporary import permit; rentals are also available on site. After the hunt, exporting the trophy and importing it to the home country (U.S. or Mexico) requires specific documentation. A good operator handles all of this for you, end to end, so you only have to hunt. It's exactly the kind of trip we organize bespoke.
